女儿还尚在襁褓之中，可是妻子却突然离世，这让武田健一（山田孝之 饰）的人生顿时跌倒了谷底。在此之后，他调动工作，到了一个弹性较大的部门，只为有更多时间照顾女儿美纪。白天忙碌不停，夜晚则对着忘妻的照片喃喃不语，慨叹命运的不公。女儿一天天长大，她牵着父亲的手一蹦一跳向幼儿园走去。虽然成长过程中父亲始终陪伴身旁，可是美纪心底依然有着对母亲的渴望和向往。时光荏苒，岁月流逝，当年那个有些闷闷不乐的小家伙长得更高了，也更有自己的主见。这让健一倍感欣慰，又难免有着些许失落。十数年的时光，他从来没有离开女儿身旁，哪怕对于爱情也是小心翼翼，不敢轻易碰触。长长的道路，见证了父女俩一路的喜乐悲欢…… 本片根据重松清的同名小说改编。
