陈建国（沙景昌 饰）是个劳改释放人员，服刑期间表现良好提前减刑出狱。不久他结识了秀妹（马睿 饰），两人相见恨晚，几个月后谈婚论嫁。在收拾新房时秀妹发现陈在狱中劳改积极分子奖状，犹如五雷轰顶。万念俱灰的陈建国被患腿疾的母亲带到秀妹家赔罪，秀妹斟酌再三同意了婚事。婚后不久，陈建国再次因官司入狱劳教，此时秀妹已有身孕，双方家人受到严重打击。管教人员针对情绪波动较大的陈建国因人施教，安排家人探视，以鼓起他生活下去的勇气。解教后，原单位给他重新安排了工作，并支付了秀妹剖腹产的医疗费。陈建国心存感激，决心今后加倍回馈社会......
