长生甸的农民刘喜旺和好朋友郭长柱在北京的一家建筑工地打工。时逢年关，辛苦了一年的刘喜旺和长柱却没有领到一分的工钱。正憋火时，喜旺的媳妇突然找到了工地，让喜旺回去为因购买假种子而受骗遭灾的乡亲们打官司。老实本分的喜旺哪里是能办这种事的人，但碍于面子，喜旺跟媳妇大吵一场后被长柱劝到一家餐馆吃饭。 吃完饭从餐馆出来时，喜旺意外的捡到了一个装有十万块钱的皮包。原来这个皮包正是喜旺所在工地老板王烨丢的。王烨是一个十足的“妻管严”，公司也是老丈人退休后交给他打理的。为了能在妻子面前挣回一点做男人的尊严，王烨让秘书许小姐偷偷地帮自己在北京成立了一家种子公司，谁想第一笔生意就进了一批假种子，而那十万块钱就是准备用来赔偿农民损失的。 王烨在机场接到属下的电话得知用来赔偿的十万块钱丢了时，长柱正和喜旺两口子为如何分这笔钱而吵得不可开交。钱没分成，喜旺出来喝闷酒，因害怕捡...
