山村男孩高兴，幼年时，母亲为了阻止盗猎分子盗猎，掉进陷阱去世。父亲又离家出走，至今杳无音信。 家庭的变故，使得高兴性格孤僻很少与人主动沟通，长年与森林里的猴王“大圣”为伴。多年后，环境的改善，野生动物的回归，又引起盗猎贼的贪欲。电影讲述高兴在熟悉森林的情况下，带领小伙伴和猴王“大圣”与盗猎分子斗智斗勇妙趣横生的故事，塑造了现代版“嘎子”形象。
