影片讲述了《水浒传》中“智取生辰纲”的片段，杨志带着巨大的忧虑和焦躁运送生辰纲上了路，所谓生辰纲，乃是大名府梁中书为岳父蔡京寿辰准备的十万贯黄金，被旧日梦魇所困的杨志总疑心有黑衣人在暗中跟随，为安全起见，专挑烈日当头时分行艰险山路，引得手下怨声载道，巨额生辰纲引得江湖各处势力虎视眈眈。终于七星聚义，众人制定计谋，吴用谋划，公孙胜勘测地形、配制丹药，刘唐联络随军的梁府老都管打探内情，阮小七则易容成老都管的模样潜回杨志的运送队伍之中，一场阴谋即将在黄泥岗展开……
