本剧记录了一个个鲜为人知却惊心动魄的侦破追缉过程。山东刑警在一家五口被杀害的家中查获大量化学制剂，而这却是一个自称做蜜枣生意的人家，报案人闪烁其词，漏洞百出……令人意外的是：这个受害家庭竟是一个制造、贩卖毒品的窝点，接下来的问题就是，毒品哪去了？毒品的来源在哪里？凶手是谁？为什么要杀人？盛夏之夜，姑苏城内某小区的一户居民，忽然发现自家洗衣手间的窗户上，趴着一个黑影，他们拿起电话拨打110。当地派出所立刻派人，赴现场辑捕罪犯，突然一声枪响，一名优秀的公安干警倒在血泊之中。1997年月10月至1998年7月，在江苏省四洪、扬州、吴江等地先后发生6起杀人劫货、沉尸的恶性大案。被害者尸体均被大水泥预制板沉入水底，头颅中都有一枚具有相同符号的钢钉。
