在战火纷乱的年代，西北边陲古镇村寨，多少传奇交替上演。石泉寨的赌徒余老八（郭鹏 饰）输了老婆石彩凤（许还幻 饰）和儿子定邦不说，还令家族蒙受奇耻大辱。在此混乱时刻，老八的哥哥余化龙（杨烁 饰）偶遇冤家之女葛大妮（佟丽娅 饰），遂将其抢回寨子准备嫁给老八。个性倔强的大妮强烈要求，明媒正娶嫁入余家，还收养了彩凤的儿子定邦。她在内如慈母一般抚育孩子长大，对外则足以撑起半边天，渐渐成为左右寨子命运的响当当的女中豪杰。随着抗日战争的全面爆发，石泉寨被卷入惊涛骇浪之中，而身处其间的所有人的命运都经受着最严苛的考验…… 本片根据董陆明的小说《拉锯地带》改编。
