作为戏剧表演学院教授的田丰（李立群 饰）最近为一件事发愁在。他的生活和家庭可谓令人艳羡，自己的妻子刘青（顾永菲 饰）是纺织厂的副厂长，女儿田忆文（杨昆 饰）已经成家育有小孩，而自己的小儿子田思文（保剑锋 饰）也是大广告公司的策划，而自己的母亲（俞敏贞 饰）也在家为他们料理着家事。一切都极其和谐，直到有一天，田母因为跳秧歌而把腰扭到了，卧床在家的田母需要人照顾，而这重担由谁来抗，都有工作在身的家人想到了请保姆来照料。 于是，一出出阴差阳错、啼笑皆非的故事就此展开，各类保姆来到田家又因为各种事情离开，而田家对保姆的态度也渐渐从防范不信任到有了新的看法……
