谢天书（刘之冰 饰）原本有一个三世同堂的幸福之家，妻子香雨（茹萍 饰）是中学老师，女儿笑笑（钟艺 饰）也到了要高考的年纪，一大家人生活的其乐融融。不料，天有不测风云，老父亲在自己八十寿宴上突发心梗辞世，顿时大喜变成大悲，就在一家人协商怎样照料孤寡老母（鲁园 饰）时，患有老年痴呆的母亲却突然走失，这下全家炸了锅，因为在此之前都不知老人患有这个病。老母独自一人走进离家几十公里的仙台山，口中喃喃念叨着早年失足的女儿天云，待找到母亲并送进医院后，医生的诊断令天书心生内疚。天书的二哥（吕晓禾 饰）家在农村，三姐（王丽云 饰）又患眼疾，天书与妻子商量准备独自一家承担起照顾母亲的责任……
