上世纪新中国建立的前五十年，响应伟大领袖“人多力量大”的号召，中国大地上到处都是多口之家，一家人其乐融融围坐在一张桌子前吃饭的场面令很多上了年纪的老人记忆犹新。九口之家的老赵家正是这些普通家庭中的代表，父亲赵宇初（毕彦君 饰）耿直固执，带着点儿自以为是的劲头。母亲敏容（吕丽萍 饰）又有些男尊女卑的封建主义旧思想，七个儿女也是秉性不同，各有主见。这其中，因被父母人为脑子笨的长女素春（陶红 饰）无疑是全家的顶梁柱。她亲切善良，忠厚随和，虽然时常受到弟妹的欺负和父母的打骂，但她始终以一张笑脸面对着她的亲人。 三十年的岁月中，傻春承担起家里大部分的家务，尽心照顾好每一个人，尽心去建设他们赖以遮风避雨、充满温暖的小家……
