本片取材于国际功夫巨星李小龙的少年传奇轶事。 正处于青春叛逆期的小龙（王小龙 饰），桀骜不训，到处惹事生非，在一次打架事件中得罪了香港政府要员，不但被就读学校开除，父亲（元华 饰）跑遍全港也没有学校愿意收留他。 就在父亲一筹莫展的时候，小龙却迷恋上了习武，一心想拜咏春大师学徒，恰巧大师（郑忠 饰）是父亲的故交。大师了解了下小龙的情况后，决定收留小龙，并告诉父亲他有一个教化小龙的计划。 小龙在习武过程中逐渐明白思想的重要性，学会了做事和思考的关系，最终转变成一个德艺双馨的少年。 在一次全港比武大赛中，他战胜了三年卫冕的冠军，取得了比赛冠军，并被香港著名学校特招入学。
