The manned spacecraft Ares 3 successfully arrived at Mars. Unexpectedly, an extremely destructive storm hit the astronauts. Ares 3 was forced to interrupt the mission and return home urgently. During the evacuation, astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) was hit by parts blown off the spacecraft. With little hope of survival, his teammates had to return in a hurry and announce to the world the fact that he had sacrificed. Unexpectedly, Mark survived with a very low probability. He hid in a space base stationed on Mars to recover from his injuries.
