宁静的边疆村落接二连三地出现了死状诡异的尸体，一时间谣言四起，似乎有邪物作祟。幕府府主之女翁小宛恰遇案发现场，恳请昔日提刑官宋慈调查此事。宋慈曾因断案奇术——“煞瞳术” 被世人惊叹，却在一次断案失误后郁郁寡欢。本不想重出江湖的宋慈意外发现这些尸体之间似乎有千丝万缕的联系，而死因都是非正常手段，显然有违常理，为了阻止更多人的死亡，他决定接受小宛的请求。追查中，宋慈遭到“幕府”府主的阻挠，就在此时，他发现这所有的事情隐约都与20年前的离奇事件有关。20年前，曾经在这片土地上生活过一个叫放罗族的部落，却不知为何在一夜之间消失无踪。幕府的建立，放罗族的失踪，连环杀人案的出现，这其中究竟藏着什么秘密？
