继“四一二”反革命政变以后，五月份马日事变发生，湖南长沙大批共产党员被害，国共合作到了最危急的时刻。为此，毛泽东（王晖 饰）、周恩来（侯祥玲 饰）、瞿秋白（刘之冰 饰）、李维汉（王欢 饰）、陈独秀（金鑫 饰）、邓小平（钟秋 饰）等人汇聚武汉商量对策，以期为陷入绝境的中国共产党寻找出路。此时的武汉鱼龙混杂，有貌似公正的汪精卫武汉国民政府、有不谙中国情况的共产国际代表和各路军阀武装，共产党人举步维艰。“七一五”反革命政变，使革命者彻底丢掉了幻想，在经历了一系列斗争之后，共产党人先是在南昌举行了武装暴动，接着在武汉召开了期待已久的紧急会议——八七会议。从而确定了中国共产党武装暴动、开展土地革命的方针，使中国革命掀开了一个新的篇章。
