一个表达大时代中「贫与富」、「新与旧」、「正与邪」的冲突的故 TVB电视剧奋斗 事。 徐承熙（周润发）为船厂少东，刚从外国回来，充满雄心壮志，回家后却发觉长姊承芳（南红）的经营手法已追不上时代，而二哥承勋（金兴贤）品性驯良，对改革之事有心无力，熙忍无可忍，离家创业。 熙与船厂工人莫伟(郭锋)另立门户，初时荆棘满途，但二人勤奋合作，又得熙之歌星长嫂秦灵（曾庆瑜）支持，新船厂渐上轨道。时勋受妻子灵被唱片公司老板罗达扬（冯淬帆）怂恿复出影响，对家业更无心料理。舅父之子荻辉（石修）趁机加紧追求徐家三女承菲（赵雅芝），图谋将船厂据为己有…… 承熙事业有成，不忍见家业被毁，毅然返家协助姊兄重建祖业，并使之变成多元化企业。至此，新旧冲突终于结束。
