Lover【Film and TV Commentary】
In 1929, Vietnam was a French colony. A 15-year-old French girl (Jane March) studied at a girls' boarding school in Saigon. She went home during holidays. Her mother ran a very small school with very little income. She has two brothers. The eldest brother Bill is addicted to drugs and is domineering. The second brother Paul is cowardly by nature and is often bullied by the eldest brother. One day, the girl said goodbye to her mother as usual and took a ferry back to school. On the boat, she met a wealthy Chinese young man (played by Tony Leung Ka-fai) in a black car. He was the only son of an overseas Chinese millionaire. The Chinese man liked the white girl and went to strike up a conversation, and the two of them hooked up. In the boarding school, the girl knew that some girls were prostitutes outside the house. She also wanted to find a rich man to try, so she took the initiative to talk to the men. After landing, the two visited Saigon and went to restaurants to eat Chinese food together. The man took her back to school in his car. As soon as school was over the next day, a black car was waiting at the school gate. The two soon fell in love. The man took the girl to his mansion, which is a place where rich Chinese people often use the golden house to hide their beauty. The two of them met, bathed and played here.
