Shadows of Caravaggio

In Italy in 1600, the talented and uninhibited painter Caravaggio (played by Riccardo Scamarcio) was sentenced to death for killing his enemy Ranuccio. The Countess of Colonna (played by Isabelle Huppert), who has long supported him, specially interceded with the Pope on his behalf. Faced with a dilemma, the Pope decided to send the secret agent "Shadow" (played by Louis Garrel) to track down the truth and determine whether the fugitive Caravaggio should be pardoned. "Shadow" launched an investigation on the orders of the Pope, only to discover that Countess Colonna was secretly hiding Caravaggio in Naples. In addition to exploring Caravaggio's dissolute life and close friends one by one, he also summoned his painting enemy Barrione (Vinicio Marchioni) to reveal Caravaggio's unknown secrets and tendencies; but he was also impressed by his arrogant talent that combined genius and decadence. The magnificent new church in Rome had just been completed, and the Pope chose Caravaggio to paint the altarpiece, and granted him the title of knight and absolution. But stuck...
