My Last Year with Mom

Kasai Izumi (Sugata Masaki) who was abandoned by his mother when he was a child (played by Mieko Harada) had to let go of her worries and take care of her mother (played by Mieko Harada) who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. As her mother gradually loses her memory, she often strangely asks Izumi and his wife (played by Nagasawa Masami) to take her to see "half a firework". As her mother goes missing again and again, Quan loses control of her long-suppressed emotions after being abandoned, and the conflict between mother and child completely breaks out. In the last days of her mother's life, Quan finally discovered her mother's long-lost secret... The film was adapted from the original novel of the same name by Genki Kawamura and won the Best Director Award at the 70th San Sebastian International Film Festival.
