In the mid-17th century, King Frederic V of Denmark announced the colonization of the vast wilderness of Jutland in order to increase tax revenue. However, the local land was barren and strong beams were rampant. For decades, many conquerors returned without success or even died in other places. Until a soldier named Ludwig Cullen (Mads Mikkelsen) stood up. Ludwig came from a humble background and was looked down upon, but he finally convinced government officials by offering to use his pension to conquer the wasteland. This resolute man came to a strange and dangerous land, and after a lot of hard work and games, he finally established the King's House. However, the local local snakes would not easily give up the land at their doorstep to this outsider, so they coerced and lured Ludwig into submission. Both sides refuse to give in to each other, and a fight is inevitable... The film won the Best Actor at the 36th European Film Awards.
