Chernobyl: The Abyss (plot commentary)

This is Russia's first major film about the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the recovery of those who paid with their lives to avert a global catastrophe. and turned much of the European continent into a vast alien region and uninhabited desert. The main character is firefighter Alexei, who does not seem like a hero at first glance. Valerka engineers and Boris's divers volunteered to go with him on dangerous raids. There was little time to make detailed plans. The water inside the reactor vessel is getting hotter every hour as the molten core approaches. The team faces a deadly mission, a most dangerous mission of all - to hell with perhaps the most horrific disaster consequences.
