Marilyn Crane (Anne Heche), a young female secretary living in Phoenix, Arizona, falls in love with Sam Loomis (Viggo Mortensen), a man from California. Their love path is not smooth sailing. Marilyn dreams of marrying her lover, but Sam must use his income for early alimony, and a beautiful marriage is far away. One day, Marilyn was asked by her boss to carry 400,000 in cash to the bank for deposit. Unable to bear the oppression of life, she fled with the money and planned to use the money to start a new life with Sam. Marilyn drove all the way to escape, but was finally stopped due to bad weather. She came to a motel to rest and was received by the young male host Norman Bates (Vince Vaughn), but she didn't know that a nightmare had just begun...
