The night is deep and love is hard to sing

A grocery store owner falls in love with a Mexican teenager who is an illegal immigrant. He takes the teenager home to live with him and drives with the teenager's friends. However, this group of marginalized people in society will eventually face a tragic ending. Gus Van Sant's debut film, a newly restored copy was screened in Taiwan for the first time. The entire film is completed with elegant and charming black and white tones and night photography. The handsome young faces, the endless grassland roads, and the cloud-filled sky all foreshadowed Gus Van Sant's future movie marks.
