Disqualified in the World: Dazai Osamu and the Three Women

The combination of Dazai Osamu and Ninagawa Mika, can be described in one word: color. Ninagawa was not convinced by Osamu Dazai's semi-autobiographical novel "The Disqualification of the World", so he directly filmed the story of himself and three women in the name of the book. Osamu Dazai's wife Michiko, his lover Shizuko who aspires to become a writer, and his last lover Furei are played by actresses Rie Miyazawa, Hideryu Sawajiri, and Fumi Nikaido respectively. They set off the theme colors carefully designed by Ninagawa for the three women. The rich and colorful pictures are a moving visual feast. In order to fight against the powerlessness of life, Osamu Dazai indulged in women and alcohol, chasing the light of death in a decadent and gloomy life.
