Caesar and Cleopatra

Cleopatra, a frightened girl hiding in the shadow of the Sphinx, met Caesar from Rome, announcing the arrival of a new era in Egypt and heralding the birth of the Queen of Egypt. At this time, Cleopatra was still an innocent and lovely girl, with charming beauty but an irritable and changeable character. She dreamed of being protected by a handsome man with strong arms and ascending to the throne of the queen. George Bernard Shaw started from a very different angle, making the Caesar in his novel no longer the powerful and violent militant in the legend, but a wise, kind, humorous and generous monarch who was tired of blood and betrayal and longed for a happy life.
