Lao Ma (played by Ma Xinchun) is a famous carpenter and painter in the village. At the age of 73, he no longer works in the fields. In addition to watching the card games and chatting at the entrance of the village, he is doing the coffin business with Lao Cao, another carpenter in the village. But now that the government is vigorously promoting cremation, fewer and fewer people come to find the two old people to make coffins. Lao Cao felt that his physical condition was very poor in the past year, so he asked Lao Ma to make a coffin for himself with cranes painted on it. After finishing the coffin, Lao Ma went to his daughter's house to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. When he came back, Lao Cao had already returned to the west on a crane. Lao Cao's body was secretly buried in the cornfield next to Caozi Lake. Lao Ma came here to pay homage. After returning, he claimed that he saw a crane by the lake. Lao Ma secretly told his grandson that his last wish was to bury himself by Caozi Lake, and wait for a crane to carry him to the sky one day... The film "Tell Them, I went on a white crane" was shortlisted for the Horizon Section of the 69th Venice International Film Festival.
