April, three weeks and two days

In 1987, on the eve of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Romania, which was still a socialist country at the time, still had a clear law prohibiting abortion. Gabita, a female college student in Bucharest who was abandoned by her boyfriend, unexpectedly became pregnant. Her roommate and friend Otilia (Anamaria Marinca) decided to help her have a secret abortion. Through a friend's introduction, the two contacted a doctor who was willing to perform the surgery and estimated that they raised a considerable amount of money. Unexpectedly, the money they raised could not meet the doctor's requirements. At the location of the operation - a cheap hotel - the doctor offered to trade Otilia's body. In order to completely help Gabita, Otilia agreed to the doctor's request. Afterwards, she began to think about her relationship with her boyfriend and came up with a hypothesis: What would her boyfriend's attitude be like if she got pregnant unexpectedly? The title of the film "April, Three Weeks and Two Days" refers to the total time Gabita took from pregnancy to abortion.
