30-year-old Witte works in an architectural design company in Silesia. One day, he received a letter from home urging him to return to his hometown to visit his sick father. Werther's hometown was a small town near Warsaw. When he arrived, he learned that his father only wanted him to come back and shoulder family responsibilities on the pretext of illness. But Werther hated their lifestyle. His father was an alcoholic, his sister Bella was a nymphomaniac, and his aunt was messy and spendthrift. Werther had to work out of town to meet their expenses. Although it is only two years since the previous work "The Structure of Crystal", the political situation in Poland has changed. Wardillo. Gomulka has stepped down, Edward. Galek became the first secretary of the Communist Party. Galek proposed policies to try to improve living standards, but did not win the trust of the Poles. The theme of the film is escape. Werther left his family to work in another city; his mother had long since fled abroad; his father was an alcoholic; and his sister was sexually active. Zainoussi is not a pessimist, and through his films he suggests that we should strive to improve our lives and work rather than retreat or indulge in unattainable fantasies.
