Sansho Doctor

At the end of the Heian Era, Masashi Kanhira (played by Masao Shimizu), the upright and caring Iwaki parent, was ostracized by his colleagues for disobeying the court's order to rescue victims, and was demoted and sent to Chikushi. Seven years later, Taira Masashi's wife Tamaki (played by Tanaka Kinuyo) set off to Chikuse with her 13-year-old son Cook King (played by Masahiko Kato), 8-year-old daughter Anshou (played by Keiko Enognai) and the middle school girl Take (played by Chieko Namihana) to find her husband. Orphans and widowed mothers had nothing to rely on. They were deceived by human traffickers in Echigo Country. Lao Zhu died, Tamaki was sold to a prostitute in Sado, and the two children were sold as slaves to the family of Dr. Sanho (played by Eitaro Shindo) in Tango. For ten years, the brother and sister suffered inhuman torture. After accidentally learning that his mother is in Sado, Chef Wang (played by Kishaki Hanagi) plans to escape from this magical cave. Anshou (played by Kyoko Kagawa) died to help her brother die. The chef king, who was freed after many hardships, decided to go to Beijing to complain about the family's grievances... This film was adapted from Ogai Mori's original work and won the Silver Lion Award at the 1954 Venice Film Festival.
