Takeshi Hayakawa (played by Joe Odagiri) has a successful career in the big city and is a young and promising photographer. His brother Minoru Hayakawa (played by Teruyuki Kagawa) inherits his father's business and runs a small gas station in his hometown. On the anniversary of her mother's death, Meng returns to her hometown from Tokyo to visit relatives. Her former lover Chieko (played by Yoko Maki) works at a gas station. She laments that she didn't leave with Meng back then. The young and energetic Meng often clashes with his traditional and stubborn father, but as the eldest brother, Min obeys his father. Afterwards, the two brothers and Chieko went to play in a nearby valley. Unexpectedly, Chieko fell from an old and dilapidated suspension bridge and died. The only one who was by her side at that time, Min, became a murder suspect. Meng ran around to help his brother, trying to prove that it was an accident.
