Dewey Finn (Jack Black) is a rock musician who has passed his thirties but is still working hard to pursue his ideals. He disdains the kind of fake music that is shoddy and full of commercial flattery, and pursues pure rock music with true feelings. For this reason, he has parted ways with countless bands, has never had a successful career, and is facing the dilemma of being kicked out by his landlord. Dewey's landlord and old friend Ned Schneebly (Mike White) used to be a fanatical and restless death rock musician, but now he has transformed into a good family man and a substitute teacher. When Dewey was free at home, he accidentally received a recruitment call from a middle school, and the other party invited Ned to come to the school as a substitute teacher quickly. Dewey, who was extremely bored and forced to make a living, changed his mind and took the identity of Ned to teach in this prestigious middle school with extremely strict school ethos. The lifelessness of the students once made him feel bored. One day, Dewey accidentally discovered the children's musical talent. So, he went beyond the truth and led these children who only knew how to study into a new and fun rock and roll world...
