The Last Flag

In 2003, former Marine Corps medic Larry "Doc" (Steve Carell) reunited with former Marines Sal (Bryant Langston) and Richard Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) who had fought with him in the Vietnam War 30 years ago to carry out a different mission: to bury the doctor's son, a young Marine who died in the Iraq War. The Doctor declined a military burial at Arlington Cemetery and, with the help of his old friends, moved the casket on a bittersweet journey up the East Coast to his home in suburban New Hampshire. Along the way, Doc, Sal and Mueller reminisce and share memories of a war that still affects their lives today. Director Richard Linklater and screenwriter Daryl Burnickson collaborated again after the trilogy as they grappled with the pain of war, past and present.
