Geophysicist Dr. Yusuke Tadokoro (Keiki Kobayashi) ) led his team to deep-sea scientific research, only to find abnormal cracks and mudflows on the seabed. After a series of investigations, he concluded that the Japanese archipelago was about to sink in a year. However, Japanese government officials believed that Dr. Tadokoro's prediction was a lie that should not be believed. Only Prime Minister Yamamoto (played by Koji Ishisaka) recognized the seriousness of the situation and appointed Tadokoro's ex-wife Saori Takamori (played by Mao Daichi) as the Minister of Crisis Management, leading Dr. Tadokoro and their team to try to save Japan. Soon, starting from Hokkaido, large-scale geological disasters occurred on the Japanese islands, and the whole of Japan fell into panic. The government is at a loss to deal with the disaster, and its only overseas immigration policy is completely unable to cope with the rapidly deteriorating situation. In the end, Dr. Tanaka and his scientific expedition team members finally found a way to save Japan, but the actual operation of this method was very difficult... This film is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Japanese science fiction novelist Komatsu Sakyo. The film cost 2 billion yen and is the largest investment and most publicized disaster film in the Japanese film industry in recent years.
