Fashion pioneer Chanel

In 1893, after her mother died, Gabrielle Chanel's wine merchant father abandoned her and her sister Antoinette to the Orbaze orphanage. As adults, Chanel (Audrey Tautou) and Antoinette (Marie Gillain) make a living by sewing and singing in bars to make money. Chanel met French millionaire Etinet Bassin (played by Benoît Poelvoorde) through her song "Coco" and became one of his many mistresses. At the castle of Bassin, Chanel began making millinery and became friends with actress Emily Ann (Emmanuelle Devos). Chanel becomes increasingly dissatisfied with the life of pleasing Bassan, and at the same time finds herself falling in love with Bassan's friend, the British industrialist Arthur Boyd Carbon (Alessandro Nivola). With Boyi's support, can Chanel start the personal career she has always wanted? The film was nominated for the Audience Award at the 2009 European Film Awards.
