Inside the Law

Liu Zhipeng (played by Andy Lau) is a young lawyer who grew up in an orphanage. He once won a lawsuit for a prostitute Liu Huilan (played by Ip Dexian) who was accused of murder, but he never knew that she turned out to be his mother. She still lives a superficial life, being blackmailed by the errand for money. Unfortunately, the birth certificate of the lawyer's son fell into the hands of the bad errand, who extorted a huge sum of money, forcing her to go to the mahjong parlor to gamble away thousands of dollars. She was caught and beaten, and in desperation, she killed the errand and was arrested pending trial. Maria, the nun at the orphanage, learned of this and asked Liu to defend her mother again.
