How delicious the French taste

Cunhambebe is the leader of the Indian Tamoyo tribe's armed resistance against the Portuguese. This tribe is now distributed between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. According to the memoirs of Hans Staden, a captured Cunhambebe sailor who narrowly escaped death, the Tupinambá people were cannibals, ferocious and aggressive. When France invaded Rio de Janeiro in 1555, the Tamuyo tribe joined forces with the Portuguese to fight against the French. As the war continued, missionaries José de Anchieta and Manuel da Nóbrega discovered Piratininga, a small village in southeastern Brazil, which gradually developed into today's Sao Paulo. Because Anchieta could speak Tupi fluently, the two later entered the Cunhambebe tribe and reached a series of agreements with them. In 1567, at Ubatuba, they signed the Treaty of Iperoig with Cunhambebe, which brought Brazil under the control of the Portuguese.
