Flowers of the Sea 1998

The film is adapted from the Wu novel "Biography of Flowers of the Sea" which was "translated" into Mandarin by Eileen Chang. In a high-end brothel called "Chang San Apartment" in the British Concession in Shanghai, prostitutes Shen Xiaohong (Michiko Haneda), Huang Cuifeng (Reich Reis) and Zhou Shuangzhu (Carina Lau) have very different minds. One wants to establish a long-term relationship with a certain man, while the other mediates with multiple men while secretly targeting the most leisurely and wealthy one among them, hoping that he will help her redeem her life in the future. Several women use survival, competition and scheming as weapons to participate in the struggle between the sexes. The men who come to the brothel to pick up prostitutes throw away money, power and sex to show off their tricks.
