A Day at the Beach

Lin Jiali (played by Sylvia Chang) grew up in a family of doctors in a traditional town in southern Taiwan. She and her brother Lin Jiasen (played by Gao Minghong) received elite education since childhood and graduated from prestigious universities. However, Jia Li did not want to be like her brother and was forced to give up her lover Tan Weiqing (played by Hu Yinmeng) and accept the marriage imposed by her father's order. She resolutely left home and went north, married and settled in Taipei, a rapidly modernizing city, with her lover Cheng Dewei (played by Mao Xuewei). However, as Taiwan's economy took off in the 1970s and 1980s, business competition became fierce. Dewei gradually became involved in the world of money competition, socializing and drinking, and eventually lost himself. Jia Li, who felt increasingly lonely and empty, received a call one day telling her that De Wei had drowned at the beach. She rushed to the beach and faced the corpse of her husband. Many years later, Jiali reunited with Tan Weiqing, who had returned from abroad to perform, and the two recalled old times in a coffee shop.
