The Plague Is Coming

In 1986, the Swedish Ministry of National Health and Welfare commissioned director Roy Anderson to shoot an educational film on the subject of AIDS in order to disseminate information on the source and prevention of AIDS to students and recruits in schools and the military. But during filming, the Department of Health and Welfare asked Anderson to terminate the project. The reason is that they watched some of the material that had been filmed and questioned the reliability of the information in the film and the shooting style. Anderson didn't follow through and made the film on his own. Regarding the origin of AIDS, the film adopts a conspiracy theory-like tone. In its account, HIV did not originate in Africa and be transmitted from animals to humans, but was created in a laboratory by American scientists and subsequently used in human experiments. Today, the film is seen as an important step in the development of Roy Anderson's personal style.
