The story of Hu Yue

After the Vietnam War ended in 1975, Hong Kong became the "first port of asylum" for a time, receiving a large number of Vietnamese refugees and boat people. After these people arrive in Hong Kong, they will be placed in detention camps by the Hong Kong government. For the Viet Cong who were mixed among them, agents (agents) would secretly kill them when they found out. Hu Yue (Chow Yun-fat), a Chinese-Vietnamese who was lucky enough to survive the Vietnam War, fled to Hong Kong with his companions. As expected, he met his pen pal Li Lijun (Miao Qian), who had never been in contact with him and had broken off contact in the later period. The latter was a social worker and sympathized with his plight. When Hu Yue counterattacked and regarded him as an agent of the Viet Cong, Li Lijun decided to help him get a fake passport to the United States. When applying for a passport, Hu Yue met Shen Qing (Zhong Chuhong), who had the same fate as him, and the two made a good living together. When Hu Yue, Shen Qing and others were in transit in the Philippines, Shen Qing and several other girls were secretly taken away by the person who helped them apply for passports. In order to find Shen Qing, Hu Yue gave up the opportunity to go to the United States and forced the person to come to a bar in Chinatown, the Philippines. It turned out that Shen Qing was a bar girl who was deceived into working as a prostitute there. In order to fulfill his promise to take care of Shen Qing, Hu Yue agreed to his boss Zhong Ren (Jin Biao) to be a killer for him, and thus became a brother with another killer Ah San (Luo Lie). But he, Shen Qing, and Ah San were just pawns in Zhong Ren's hands.
