After World War II, British lawyer William Collyer's (Simon Russell Beale) wife Hester Collyer (Rachel Weisz) meets retired pilot Freddie Page (Tom Hiddleston). Hester, who lives an empty and lonely life, falls into an affair with the young and handsome Freddie. This matter was soon discovered by Hester's husband William. Later, Hester thought Freddie no longer loved her and attempted suicide. She was unsuccessful and Freddie became furious after reading her suicide note.
