Distant Voices

Terence Davis's elegant artistic masterpiece, a film that reflects the distinct British style. The plot revolves around a marriage in a working-class family in Liverpool shortly after the end of World War II, and is interspersed with various plots by a father who sometimes appears cruel. The film's charm is made up of those deeply artistic shots, combined with the director's own grasp of the characters and the actors' grasp of the characters, especially Pete Postlethwaite, who plays the role of the father brilliantly.
