Embrace of the Snake

In 1909, a German explorer suffered from a strange disease in the Amazon jungle and asked for help from a witch doctor whose tribe had been almost wiped out. They meandered along the river, trying to find the lost tribe and the mysterious plant that could cure the disease; in 1941, An American explorer also set foot on the rainforest land and retraced his footsteps with a local old man. The sleeping memories in the rainforest were gradually awakened. The madness and disaster left by the past also grew like tropical plants, spreading into more twisted scars... "Embrace of the Snake" was written based on the character's adventure diary in the Amazon Basin. It is a black-and-white video poem written by the young Colombian director Ciro Guerra to the South American continent. It won the Directors' Fortnight Award at the Cannes Film Festival and represented Colombia in the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
