Naked Island

Work at sunrise and rest at sunset. For thousands of years, human beings have followed ancient survival laws and strive to survive in harsh environments. On an isolated island in the Seto Inland Sea of ​​Hiroshima, there lives a silent couple (played by Nobuko Otoha and Taiji Toyama) and their two lively and sensible children (played by Shinji Tanaka and Masaki Horimoto). Since there is no fresh water on the island, the couple has to get up early every morning and row to the opposite island to fetch water. The family's food, clothing, and crops are irrigated entirely by the couple fetching water. As spring passes and autumn comes, with severe cold and scorching heat, every day is a new beginning. Every day we do endless farm work, and our joy, anger, sorrow, and joy all merge with the clear water into the eternally silent earth...
