Andrew (played by Tom Hanks) and Miller (played by Denzel Washington) met in court. Both are young and promising lawyers, each with their own master. However, young Andrew was soon discovered by his boss because of his homosexuality and HIV infection, and was fired for no reason. After being fired, Andrew searched for a lawyer to seek justice for him. When Andrew approached Miller, Miller initially rejected him. Because Miller hates homosexuals and is afraid of AIDS like ordinary people, but when he saw Andrew being looked down upon by the administrator when he searched for "AIDS discrimination" in the library, and listened to his wife slowly and calmly saying that many of their aunts and friends were also gay, he decided to accept Andrew's case.
