Prison Break Protocol

On the night of January 29, 1990, shortly before Chile's democratic transition began, dozens of political prisoners escaped from a prison in Santiago and 24 activists passed through the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front, which had spent 18 months digging a tunnel. Using spoons, forks and a screwdriver, they dug more than 80 meters long and hid 55 tons of dirt inside the prison. Neither the regular prisoners in nearby cells nor the prison guards who guarded the prison every day were aware of the 49 prisoners' plans - one of the most surprising and spectacular prison escapes in Chilean criminal history.
