Off the beaten track

Daru (Viggo Mortensen) is a Frenchman born in Algeria. Today, he works as a teacher in a remote mountain school. One day, a policeman appeared in front of Daru and handed over a tied prisoner Mohammed (Reda Kateb) to Daru. The man was accused of killing his cousin, and Daru wanted to take him to a nearby village for trial. This hard work gave Daru a great headache, because he knew that as long as Mohammed arrived in the village, only death would be waiting for him. He was unwilling to be such a pusher, but the police left Mohammed after leaving Daru. In desperation, Daru had to take Mohammed on the journey. Along the way, Daru not only has to be wary of Mohammed escaping, but also protects him from attacks by relatives of the deceased.
