White (Kevin Costner), the capable but rough football team coach, was expelled from his high school due to a violent incident, and his "evil behavior" also caused other high schools to close the door to hiring him. In desperation, White came to McFarland, a poor and remote town in California, to work in the local high school. This small town is inhabited by a large number of immigrants from Mexico.
