One Hundred Years of Xuyun

The twenty-episode TV series "One Hundred Years of Xuyun" is a story based on the life of Elder Xuyun, a modern Chinese Zen master, who had a tough heart, practiced hardship, and was compassionate in helping the world. In 1840, on a stormy night, Xiao Yutang and his wife, the prefect of Quanzhou, gave birth to a child in their middle age. Unexpectedly, they gave birth to a meat ball. Mrs. Xiao died of horror. Xiao Yutang was filled with grief and anger and ordered his servant to throw away the meat ball. A medicine man floated up and cut open his afterbirth, letting out an earth-shattering cry. Xuyun came to the world and began his 120-year journey of seeking the truth through forty-eight wonders. This drama uses a Zen-like, twists and turns, vivid, sincere and touching storyline to show the life of Elder Xuyun who was unable to do anything, endured it, and forgot his body for the sake of the Dharma. Through seven parts, including leaving the world to become a monk, the road to enlightenment, Gengzi's journey to the west, revitalizing Jishan, Tibetan and Han soldiers, Buddha's heart to protect the country, and the everlasting lamp of wisdom, the legendary experience of a generation of eminent monks who are rarely seen in a century is reproduced.
