In order to win the favor of Fangjiro / Junichi decided to learn fishing from him. After several days of waiting / the two finally encountered a school of tuna. Fusajiro only focused on fishing / but Junichi accidentally got his head tangled in fishing line and almost died. After being discharged from the hospital / Junichi and his wife moved back to the city / and Fangjiro was finally alone. A year later / Junichi and Luzi returned to the fishing village. One night Junichi went to sea and failed to return / and the radio was interrupted. Fuangjiro went out to sea to search and found Shunichi fighting a big fish. He was exhausted and dying... The film was adapted from Akira Yoshimura's award-winning novel of the same name. It was ranked 33rd among the top 100 films of the 1980s by the Japanese Film Newspaper.
