The story begins in the turbulent year of 1949, when businessman Chen Xiaoyi (Chen Zhipeng) (played by Hu Yue) mortgaged the jade seal, a family heirloom given to him by his fiancée Li Jinnan, to Jiudaiko (played by Hu Yue) to solve the urgent need of his friend Ma Yunlu (played by Cao Li). Unexpectedly, this move caused a misunderstanding by Li Jinnan, who did not know the truth. Disappointed and sad, Li Jinnan chose to leave. Li Jinnan's grandma (played by Xie Fang) suffers from Alzheimer's disease. She sits under the locust tree all day long and looks into the distance, as if waiting for something, looking forward to something.
